Madhubani art or Mithila Painting is a local art form in Bihar, India. Fingers, twigs, brushes or matchsticks help on making these art forms. They use natural dyes. It is traditionally made by women of villages around the present town of Madhubani. The literal meaning of madhubani is forests of honey.
These madhubani art paintings are full of eye-catching colors and geometric patterns. They tell stories of all kinds…weddings, festivals, the birth of a baby and more.
Earthygoods, presented me with an exciting opportunity to work upon some new designs based on these Madhubani paintings, handpainted by some very talented local artists. ‘Five Elements’ of nature were the inspiration for this project.
Seen any interesting use of Indian Folk art? let me know in the comments section. The colors that I used were bright and attractive. I used motifs from the original Madhubani paintings for creating some new patterns, which were modern and aesthetically appealing. The end result was these amazing sets of designs, which were used as corporate stationery sets, Incense boxes, candle labels, and wrapping paper.
