Tangerine
What’s common between Tommy Hilfiger and Nanette Lepore? And between Adrienne Vittadini and G T Road trucks? Between the snake charmers in the back lanes of Banaras and the Hanuman Mandir in New Delhi?
Well, Pantone Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango or PANTONE 17-1463 to be precise!
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive. Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset. Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red, with the friendliness and warmth of yellow. It forms a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®
I am new to the Pantone shade cards. But I feel this orange has been incorporated in our DNA in India. Since ancient history. And now it has simply taken over the world. Well the design world at least.
The serene sunset on the ghats of Ganga. The Bandhani Odanis of Rajasthan. The chogas of the wandering mysterious sadhus of Amarnath. The Marigolds offered to the Gods every morning. Tangerine Orange has always been a part of our Indian palettes.
